The Missouri State Bears have a long and storied history with their wordmark logo, which has been used to represent the team since its inception in 1905. The original design featured an interlocking "MS" set against a shield-like background. This style of logo was popular among college teams during this era, as it provided an easy way for fans to identify the school's athletics program.

In 1988, the university decided to update its wordmark logo by adding more detail and color. They added two stars above the "MS", representing Missouri’s statehood status as “the Show Me State". Additionally, they changed out some of the colors from black and white to blue and gold - which are still used today - along with introducing red into certain elements of design such as on top of each star or inside parts like lettering or circles around them.

In 2003, when Missouri State became part of the NCAA Division I athletics program, they began using a new version that included bolder typeface for both letters (M & S) plus additional details such as outlines around them -- all while keeping the same colors scheme mentioned earlier: blue/gold/red; but also adding silver into the mix too at times depending upon application needs.

Today’s current version is very close resemblance what first appeared back in 1988, yet still looks modern enough to suit contemporary tastes without sacrificing any historical aspects associated with the iconic mark itself; thus making a perfect representation brand image that many people associate not only the university but the entire region well!
