Bearcats Wordmark Logo

The Cincinnati Bearcats wordmark logo has been a part of the university's identity since its inception in 1885. The original logo was designed by former student and coach, George Denny, and featured an aggressive-looking bear surrounded by a circle with the words “Cincinnati” above it. This iconic design has been used ever since to represent the school’s athletic teams as well as its academic programs.

Over time, there have been several updates to this classic logo in order to keep up with changing trends and technological advances. In 1995, for instance, designer Mark English modernized the look of the Bearcat while keeping true to its traditional roots; he added more detail on both sides of the bear including claws on each paw which gave it an even more ferocious appearance than before! Similarly in 2004 when UC adopted a new typeface for all official logos across campus - they decided that their beloved mascot deserved some attention too so they updated his fur patterning giving him even more character than before!

Today’s version is inspired by these past iterations but also includes subtle changes like adding two stars at either side – reflecting Cincinnati's status as one of America's most historic cities – along with adjusting certain elements such as font size or coloration depending on usage needs (i.e., merchandise vs signage). All-in-all though no matter what form it takes you can always be sure that this timeless symbol will continue representing UC proudly into future generations!
