The Indiana State Sycamores have a long and proud history in college athletics. From winning the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship in 1979 to their recent success on the gridiron, they are one of the most recognizable teams in all of the college sports. But what many people may not know is that behind every great team, there is an equally great logo, and for Indiana State, that means their iconic wordmark logo.

First introduced back in 1948 when Indiana State College became known as “Indiana State University”, this classic design has been with them ever since. The original version featured a bold white font set against a royal blue background with two sycamore trees standing tall on either side of it – representing strength and resilience through adversity – while also paying homage to their home state's official tree species; making it truly unique among collegiate logos at the time (and still today).

Since then, minor tweaks have been made over time such as changing from block lettering to italicized text or introducing new colors like gold or black into its palette but overall its core essence remains unchanged even after more than 70 years! This consistency helps make sure that no matter where you see this mark - be it on merchandise or during a game broadcast - you instantly recognize who they represent: The Mighty Sycamores!
