Wildcats Wordmark Logo

The Kentucky Wildcats wordmark logo has a long and storied history. It began in the early 1900s when the University of Kentucky joined the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA). At that time, the UK had no official mascot or logo, so they created one for use on their uniforms and other items associated with athletics. The original design was simple: an interlocking “K” and “U” surrounded by a circle with two stars above it. This basic design would remain unchanged until 1950 when it was modified to include a wildcat in place of one star as well as additional words around its perimeter such as "Kentucky" and "Wildcats".

Over the years, there have been several variations made to this classic design including changes to its colors (from blue-and-white to blue-and-gray) or minor tweaks like adding white outlines around certain elements. Additionally, some versions feature different fonts for each letter while others are more uniform across all letters used within them. Despite these alterations throughout history though, one thing remains constant - this iconic wordmark is still instantly recognizable today!

Today's version of the Kentucky Wildcats wordmark features three distinct elements: an updated version of that original interlocking K/U; bold block letters spelling out "Kentucky"; and finally - most importantly - our beloved Wildcat mascot at center stage! While modern technology has allowed us greater flexibility than ever before when creating logos like this one; we must never forget where it came from nor how far we've come since those early days back in SIAA membership over 100 years ago!
