Texas Southern Tigers is the name of the athletic teams that represent Texas Southern University, located in Houston, Texas. The school's official colors are maroon and gray.

The origin of their wordmark logo dates back to 1950 when it was first used on a letterhead for an invitation to a dinner honoring legendary football coach John W. Heisman at Rice Stadium in Houston. The design featured an image of a Tiger mascot waving its paw with "Texas Southern" written above it and "Tigers" below it in bold block font letters outlined by thin white lines inside a black circle with two curved lines extending from either side representing wings or claws coming out from behind the logo's circular shape symbolizing strength and power associated with tigers as well as protection for those who wear this emblem proudly - students, alumni, faculty members, fans alike!

Today’s version features updated fonts giving more emphasis on “Southern” while still maintaining its iconic look; however, there have been several variations over time including different color combinations such as orange-black or blue-white which were all incorporated into various sports uniforms throughout TSU history until finally settling back onto traditional maroon & gray combination seen today across many platforms like social media sites where they post team updates regularly along with merchandise items available online so everyone can show off their school spirit!
