Bulldogs Wordmark Logo
The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a long and proud history, dating back to 1878 when the first football team was formed. Throughout the years, their logo has evolved to reflect this rich heritage while also staying modern and relevant. The current wordmark logo is one of the most recognizable in college sports today, with its bold font choice and bright colors that show off school spirit.
The original Mississippi State Bulldogs wordmark was created in 1932 by renowned designer Togo Doster Jr., who had previously worked on logos for other universities such as Harvard University and Duke University. This version featured an ornate font style with blue lettering outlined in yellow that spanned across two lines: “MISSISSIPPI STATE” at the top line followed by “BULLDOGS” below it. In 1979, a new version of this design appeared featuring a more streamlined typeface but still retaining its classic look overall; however, it wasn't until 1997 when then-athletic director Larry Templeton commissioned graphic designer Bill Baxley III to update their branding that we got what we recognize today as our beloved mascot's official mark -a blocky sans serif font set against white background surrounded by maroon lettering outlined in white which reads "Mississippi State" at top line & "Bulldogs" beneath it.
Today, Mississippi State Bulldog fans proudly wear apparel featuring our iconic wordmark logo everywhere they go! With over 100 years of tradition behind us, the MSU Bulldog Logo continues to be recognized around campus & beyond, & will continue doing so for many more generations ahead!
