The Eastern Illinois Panthers are one of the most recognizable teams in NCAA Division I athletics, and their iconic wordmark logo has been a part of their identity since its inception. The history behind this classic design dates back to when the school first adopted it as its official athletic mark in 1968.

For nearly five decades, the Eastern Illinois Panthers have proudly displayed a unique wordmark logo that is both simple and elegant. It features an interlocking “EI” lettering style with two black panthers facing each other on either side of the letters – representing strength, courage, and ferocity. This powerful representation is further enhanced by bold colors such as navy blue, gold, and white which symbolize loyalty to EIU Athletics while also providing contrast against opponents’ colors in competitions or events.

Since then, there have been several minor changes made to refine certain aspects of the design over time; however, these modifications were meant only for aesthetic purposes rather than any major revisions or alterations that would take away from what makes this wordmark so special: Its timelessness! As we look ahead into future years at EIU Athletics programs continue to grow stronger year after year - so too will our beloved Panther Wordmark remain an integral part of who we are!
