Vikings Wordmark Logo
As one of the most iconic sports teams in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cleveland State Vikings have a long and storied history from 1922. Over the years, they’ve developed a solid fan base and become integral to their city's culture. One important symbol associated with this team is its wordmark logo, which has undergone several iterations. This blog post will look at how it has changed throughout its almost 100-year existence!
The first iteration of the logo was designed by Fred Burdett in 1923 when he created his “CSU Viking” design for use on letterheads and other official documents related to CSU athletics. This design featured two large V letters connected by an intricate knotwork pattern representing strength and unity among players and fans alike. The words “Cleveland State University” were also included underneath these symbols to show off school pride further!
As time went on, however, changes began being made to reflect modern trends better while still keeping accurate to traditional elements like those found within Burdett's original design, such as using bold colors like navy blue or gold along with white accents for contrast against them - all elements that are present today too! In 1978, another update occurred where instead of just having two Vs connected, there were now four, each representing different aspects of what makes up CSU, such as academics (A), athletics (S), spirit/tradition (V) & community involvement/service(I).
Finally, in 2010, yet another alteration took place when designers decided it would be best if they simplified things even more so that people could easily recognize what team was being represented from afar, thus making way for the current-day version featuring only one large V letter surrounded by text reading out "Cleveland State Vikings" accompanied either side respectively - something we can all agree looks pretty awesome no matter who you ask right?
All told then, regardless of whether you're cheering your favorite team from home or attending games live at Wolstein Center, rest assured knowing their wordmark logo is steeped not only in tradition but also innovation – giving us reason enough why everyone should proudly wear some gear showcasing it whenever possible don't you think?
