Vikings Primary Logo

The Cleveland State Vikings have a long and storied history of success, both on and off. From their first season in 1968 to today, they've been an integral part of the city's sports scene. Their primary logo has remained consistent throughout their years - a Viking warrior with his shield raised high above his head.

This iconic symbol has been used for more than 50 years as the official team logo, but its roots date back much further than that. The original design was created by graphic artist Robert Lauer in 1967 when he was asked to create something unique for Cleveland State’s athletic teams at the time – then known as Fenn College (later becoming CSU). He drew inspiration from Norse mythology and ancient Viking symbols to develop this timeless image, which still stands strong today!

While there have certainly been some minor adjustments over time - such as changing colors or adding elements like stars or stripes - it remains unchanged since its conception all those decades ago. It’s become one of college sports' most recognizable logos, proudly displayed on jerseys, hats, and banners around campus…you name it! Whether you’re new to town or grew up here your whole life – if you see this logo anywhere, chances are good it belongs to our beloved CSU Vikings!
