Tennessee State University is a historically black college located in Nashville, Tennessee. The school's athletic teams are known as the Tigers, and they compete at the NCAA Division I level in football, basketball, and other sports. The university has had a long history of success on the field and off it with its iconic logo being one of its most recognizable symbols.

The original Tiger logo was designed by former TSU coach William Huggins back in 1937 when he created it for use on team uniforms to represent his beloved alma mater - Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). Since then, several iterations have been made to reflect changing times but still remain true to its heritage roots.

The current version features an angry tiger head with two crossed sabers behind him - representing strength through unity - along with bold lettering spelling out "TENNESSEE STATE" above it all. It also includes three stars that symbolize excellence; red for courage & determination; white for purity & faithfulness; blue for loyalty & justice which make up part of TSU’s official colors scheme as well as those found within the Tennessee state flag itself! This powerful combination makes this distinctive mark stand out among many others used by collegiate institutions around the country while simultaneously honoring both past and present students who proudly call themselves “Tigers”!

Over time this design has become more than just a simple mascot or emblem but rather an embodiment spirit of pride that unites the entire student body together no matter what sport they play whether varsity or intramural club levels alike – making sure everyone knows where their loyalties lie: Tennessee State Tigers forevermore!!
