Sooners Wordmark Logo

The Oklahoma Sooners have a long and proud history of excellence in college football. Their wordmark logo is one of the most iconic images in all of the sports, representing not only their school but also the state that they call home. The Sooners’ wordmark logo has gone through several iterations since its inception, each reflecting different eras and styles throughout the team's long history.

The original Oklahoma Sooners wordmark was designed by Norman Rockwell for an advertisement campaign back in 1939. It featured a large “OU” with a smaller “S” inside it along with two stars on either side to represent both sides of college football: offense and defense. This classic design served as the official logo until 1999 when it was replaced by another version featuring more modern styling elements such as bolder colors, sharper lines, and larger lettering that better represented what had become known as "Big 12 Football."

In 2010 yet another redesign took place which saw some minor tweaks to make it look even more modern while still keeping true to its roots; this version remains unchanged today though there are plans for future updates down the road whenever necessary or desired by university officials or alumni groups alike who wish to keep up with changing times while staying loyal to tradition at heart!
