Greyhounds Wordmark Logo

The Loyola-Maryland Greyhounds wordmark logo is a classic example of how a university’s branding and identity can evolve over time. The current version of the logo has been around since 2015, but its history dates back to 1925 when the school was first founded.

For more than 90 years, this iconic symbol has represented Loyola University Maryland's commitment to excellence in academics and athletics. Over that time period, there have been several iterations of the mark as it adapted to changing times and trends in collegiate sports logos.

The original design featured an interlocking “L” and “M” for "Loyola-Maryland," along with two greyhound silhouettes running side by side – hence their nickname! In 1987, this design was updated slightly to include a shield shape behind the letterforms which gave it more stability while still keeping true to its traditional roots.

In 2004 another update took place where they replaced one greyhound silhouette with an illustration depicting both dogs racing together - giving it an even greater impact on game day uniforms or merchandise items featuring their mascot(s).

Finally, in 2015, they unveiled yet another redesign which modernized some aspects such as making all elements black & white (including removing any gradients) while also simplifying certain parts like reducing the number of lines used within each letterform from 8 down to 4 - creating a much cleaner look overall without sacrificing any part of what makes up their brand identity at large!

Today's iteration stands out among other NCAA teams due not only to its historical significance but also because of how well designed/executed the final product turned out after so many updates throughout decades past... proving once again why timelessness matters when developing strong visual identities for universities nationwide!
