Eagles Wordmark Logo
The Eastern Michigan Eagles have a long and proud history in NCAA athletics. Their iconic wordmark logo has been an integral part of that tradition since the school’s inception in 1849. The original version of the logo was created by then-athletic director Charles L. Bensley, who wanted to create a symbol for his team that would stand out from other college teams at the time.
Since its debut, this classic design has gone through several iterations over the years as it evolved with changing times and trends within collegiate sports branding. In 1970, an updated version was introduced which featured two eagles facing each other atop a shield shaped like EMU's home state of Michigan—a nod to their regional pride and loyalty to their fans across “the Mitten State”!
And while minor changes have occurred throughout its lifetime (including color variations), it remains largely unchanged today—an enduring testament to EMU's commitment towards excellence on and off the field!
In addition to being one of college sports' most recognizable logos, Eastern Michigan University also proudly displays its mascot "Swoop" alongside this timeless emblem; further reinforcing its identity as fierce competitors striving for greatness both athletically & academically alike! This combination is a surefire reminder that when you support or represent EMU Athletics you're doing so with distinction & class - something we can all be proud of no matter where our allegiances lie!
