Eagles Primary Logo
The Eastern Michigan Eagles have a long and storied history of excellence, both on the field and off. From their NCAA Division 1-A football program to their renowned marching band, the Eagles are one of the most recognizable collegiate sports teams in America. But what many may not know is that they also have an iconic primary logo that has been around since 1971.
The current version of this classic design was created by former EMU art professor Robert Schmitt back in 1971 as part of a complete rebranding effort for the university's athletics department. The logo features an eagle head facing forward with its wings spread wide open above it - symbolic of strength, courage, and freedom – all values embodied by Eastern Michigan University’s student body and athletic programs alike.
Over time this classic design has evolved slightly but still remains true to its original concept; featuring only minor changes such as color variations or subtle modifications to lines or shapes within each element featured in it (eagle head/wings). This timeless look continues to be used across various mediums including uniforms & apparel items worn by players & coaches at games/events held on campus as well as promotional materials distributed throughout Southeast Michigan regionally & nationwide nationally via television broadcasts etc…
In addition to being one symbolically powerful image representing EMU Athletics' past present future, the Primary Logo also serves another important purpose: It helps differentiate our team from other universities who share similar names like West Virginia Mountaineers, Central Florida Golden Knights, etc... Allowing us to stand out amongst competitors while maintaining brand recognition among fans alumni supporters everywhere!
