The East Carolina Pirates have a proud and storied history, dating back to their origins in the early 20th century. The original logo was created by former student-athlete Bill Bellamy and first appeared on ECU uniforms during football games in 1934.

Over time, this classic design has evolved into what we know today as “The Pirate” – an image that embodies both strength and tradition with its bold black lettering outlined against a striking purple backdrop. In addition to being used across all official school merchandise, it can also be seen at sporting events throughout Greenville where passionate fans proudly display their support for ECU athletics through banners featuring “The Pirate” alongside other spirited symbols such as flags or face paint!
