Pirates Primary Logo
The East Carolina Pirates' primary logo is an iconic symbol of the university and its athletic programs. It has gone through many iterations over the years but still retains its original look and feel. The current version features a skull-and-crossbones design with a pirate ship in the background, surrounded by two crossed swords. This logo was first introduced in 1979 when ECU joined Conference USA (CUSA). Since then, it has been modified several times to reflect changes within CUSA or to modernize its appearance for different eras of Pirate athletics.
The first iteration of this logo featured just a skull-and-crossbones design without any other elements present; however, this changed in 1981 when ECU added two crossed swords behind the skull as well as their signature “P” on either side of it – creating what we now know as their classic mark today! In 1985 they tweaked it slightly by adding more detail to both swords and making them appear sharper than before while also changing up some aspects such as coloration or font type used for text purposes like names/mascots associated with each team (e.g., “ECU Pirates”).
In addition to these changes made throughout history, there have also been various versions created specifically for special occasions such as bowl games where teams typically use alternate logos that feature unique designs related back to those particular events – something which can be seen quite clearly here too! For example, during 2006's Hawaii Bowl game against Boise State University, you'll find that instead of featuring only one sword there are actually four blades surrounding the entire composition giving off a much stronger sense of power strength than previous editions ever had before - all thanks to careful consideration from designers at the time who wanted make sure everyone knew exactly how serious were taking challenge ahead them no matter what happened end result may be!
