Big Green Wordmark Logo

The Dartmouth Big Green has a long and storied history that dates back to 1769 when it was founded in Hanover, New Hampshire. Over the years, its wordmark logo has become an iconic symbol of the school’s legacy and pride. The current version of the Dartmouth Big Green wordmark logo was designed in 2003 by Michael Bierut, a renowned graphic designer who is also responsible for designing logos for companies such as Pentagram Design Inc., Viacom International Inc., and Microsoft Corporation.

The design features two overlapping “D”s with an arrow pointing outward from each side to form a shield shape at their intersection point. This creates a visual balance between the two letters while also representing protection from adversity or obstacles – something that is very important to members of this Ivy League institution! Additionally, there are several subtle details within this logo which include: rounded edges on all four sides; a serif typeface used throughout; and colors chosen specifically for their association with loyalty (blue) & strength (green). Lastly, since 2004 it has been accompanied by NCAA Division I athletics-related text underneath reading "Big Green" which further helps solidify its identity among collegiate sports teams across America today!
