The Brigham Young University Cougars are one of the most iconic college sports teams in the country. The team has a long and storied history, and they have had an equally impressive logo to match. From its inception in 1922 until today, BYU's wordmark logo has undergone several changes over the years while still maintaining its classic look that fans recognize and love.

The first version of BYU’s wordmark was created by Art Jorgensen in 1922 when he designed a script-style “BYU” with two lines connecting it on either side. This design was used for almost 20 years before being replaced by another script-style font with more modern features such as serifs at both ends of each letterform. In 1965, this new design was adopted as part of an effort to update all aspects associated with Brigham Young University athletics including their uniforms, logos, etc., which is why it is often referred to as "the modern era."

In 2003, after nearly 40 years without any major changes or updates made to their official branding elements (logos included), BYU decided it was time for a fresh look so they enlisted designer Michael Bierut from Pentagram Design Incorporated who developed what we now know today as “the current mark." This iteration featured a bolder typeface along with subtle curves that give off an airy feel reminiscent of traditional collegiate designs but also updated enough not to seem dated or outdated like some other older logos tend to do over time due to NCAA rules changing frequently regarding use & appearance on apparel & merchandise items sold officially through universities/colleges themselves directly online or otherwise nationally/internationally distributed among retailers worldwide respectively speaking alike per se.

Overall this latest version remains true to the original concept while providing just enough differentiation between past iterations - making sure there's no confusion when people see BYUs iconic brand represented anywhere around them! It continues to be seen proudly worn across campus grounds everywhere plus appearing prominently throughout media outlets covering collegiate sports coverage year round thus keeping up tradition alive since day 1...
