Cougars Primary Logo

The BYU Cougars have a long and storied history in collegiate sports. As one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division I, they are known for their fierce competitiveness and championship-level play. One of the hallmarks of any great program is its logo – something that represents the team’s identity to fans and opponents alike. The BYU Cougars' primary logo has gone through various changes over time, but it has remained largely consistent since its introduction in 1971.

In 1971, Brigham Young University introduced a new primary logo featuring an image of a cougar head on top of lettering spelling out “BYU” with two stars above it representing both academic excellence as well as athletic success achieved by the school's teams throughout its history at that point (1971). This design was used until 1995 when an update was made to make it more modernized while still keeping true to tradition: replacing some elements such as removing one star from above “BYU” while adding additional shading around parts like eyes or mouth area giving them depth which gave overall look more realistic feel than before; also changing font typeface slightly too give better readability for viewers across all mediums (print/web).

In 2000 another change took place this time focusing on the color scheme being changed from a traditional blue & white combination into a navy blue & metallic gold combo making the icon even bolder looking than ever before plus adding small details like outlining the entire shape itself so there would be no confusion between background colors when viewed form distance or against other objects competing same space visually speaking. Finally, the latest iteration saw slight modifications done back in 2013 where the outer ring was added along the bottom part completing a full circle effect thus creating the complete iconic image we know today which continues to serve the university well into the present day thanks to a loyal fanbase who continuously support the program every step way!
