Hilltoppers Wordmark Logo

Western Kentucky University has a long and storied history, which is reflected in its iconic Hilltoppers wordmark logo. The original logo was designed in the late 1950s by a student at the university, who wanted to create an image that would represent the school’s spirit of excellence and enthusiasm.

The first iteration of this logo featured a white “WKU” on top of a red background with two black lines running through it. This design remained unchanged until 1973 when it was updated to include three stars above the lettering as well as some additional detail around each letter. This version became known as “the classic WKU Hilltopper Logo". It served not only as an emblem for Western Kentucky University but also became synonymous with its athletics program - appearing on jerseys, banners, hats, and more throughout campus life for decades thereafter!

In 2015 however, WKU decided that their beloved mascot needed an upgrade; one that represented both their past accomplishments while still being modern enough to help them reach new heights going forward! So they enlisted renowned graphic designer Todd Radom (who had worked previously with teams like MLB's Oakland Athletics) to develop something special – resulting in what we now know today: The current Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Wordmark Logo!

This sleek update features bolder fonts than before along with stronger colors – creating something truly unique yet instantly recognizable across all mediums (print & digital). In addition, there are several variations depending upon application including horizontal & vertical layouts plus different color schemes such as black/white or even full-color versions if desired! With these updates combined together they created one unified look capable of embodying everything from school pride during Homecoming festivities right up through championship-level competition within NCAA sports leagues nationwide - making sure everyone knows exactly who you're rooting for no matter where you go!!
