Flames Wordmark Logo

The Liberty Flames wordmark logo is a symbol of excellence and pride for the university. The iconic design has been around since 1972 when it was first adopted as the official logo of Liberty University. Since then, it has become an integral part of the school’s identity and spirit.

The original version featured a bold red “L” on top with flames emanating from its sides to form an arc above that letter. This design was meant to represent both strength and courage—traits that are essential for success in any endeavor or challenge in life. It also serves as a reminder to students about their responsibility to uphold Liberty's values: integrity, stewardship, service, knowledge-seeking truth & understanding; faith & freedom; innovation & creativity; respect for all people; justice & equality among others!

In 2004 this classic look received some minor updates such as adding shading behind certain letters and making slight adjustments in size/proportionality between elements within the overall mark itself (such as making sure each flame had equal width). In 2016 there were further changes made including additional color variations like silver metallic along with black/white options which have allowed more flexibility when creating merchandise designs featuring this beloved mascot!

These modifications over time have helped keep up with modern trends while preserving what makes our wordmark so special - its timelessness!
