Dukes Wordmark Logo

The Duquesne Dukes is a university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It has been home to many successful athletes and teams over the years, including basketball legend Chuck Cooper and an NCAA Final Four appearance by the men's basketball team in 1977. The school’s wordmark logo has been around since 1969 when it was first unveiled as part of a new branding campaign for the university.

Since then, there have been several iterations of this iconic logo that have become synonymous with Duquesne athletics. The original design featured three stars arranged in an arch above “Duquesne University” written out below them — representing faithfulness to God (the top star), loyalty to the country (the middle star), and devotion to learning (the bottom star). This design remained largely unchanged until 1992 when it was updated with more modern typography that better matched other collegiate logos at the time.

In 2009, another update saw some minor tweaks made such as removing unnecessary lines from within each letterform while also increasing its size slightly for greater visibility on apparel or signage applications. More recently however came what is now considered one of their most recognizable versions yet — featuring larger typefaces along with bolder colors like black and gold which perfectly reflect both their athletic heritage as well as city pride all at once!

This latest version debuted just prior to the 2019-20 season making sure everyone knew exactly who they were cheering on during every game day experience no matter where they may be watching from! With such strong ties between these symbols & what they represent; we can only expect even more creative designs coming down the pipeline soon enough so stay tuned.
