Bulldogs Wordmark Logo
The Butler Bulldogs wordmark logo has a long and storied history. It began in the late 19th century when the school was first founded as North Western Christian University. At that time, the university adopted an old English font style to represent their athletic teams, which were then known as “the Bulldogs”. This original logo featured two bulldogs facing each other with a shield between them featuring crossed swords and stars above it.
In 1993, Butler underwent its first major rebranding effort since its inception in 1855 by introducing a new version of their iconic Bulldog mascot along with an updated wordmark design for all sports teams at the school. The new design featured bolder lettering than before and included more intricate details such as serifs on some of the letters and small stars around certain parts of it creating a unique look that is still used today by many universities across America to identify themselves athletically speaking.
Today's modern version features slightly thicker lettering compared to previous designs while also maintaining much of what made this classic mark so recognizable over time: namely, those same two bulldogs facing off against one another atop either side of that same familiar shield shape from years past complete with crossed swords inside representing strength & courage - values which have been synonymous with both Butler University & its athletic programs throughout much if not all of its existence!
