Leopards Wordmark Logo
The Lafayette Leopards have a long and storied history, dating back to the late 19th century when they were first established as an independent college team. The Leopards’ iconic wordmark logo has been around since then, making it one of the oldest logos in NCAA sports. It's also become one of the most recognizable symbols among fans and alumni alike.
The original version of this logo was created by legendary graphic designer Saul Bass in 1936 for use on uniforms, merchandise, and other promotional materials related to Lafayette athletics teams. Since then it has undergone several modifications over time but still retains its distinct look that is synonymous with Leopard pride across all generations!
In 2002, a new version was unveiled which featured an updated font style along with some minor changes such as adding two stars above the “Leopards” text - symbolizing excellence both on and off-field accomplishments achieved by student-athletes at this prestigious institution throughout its history! In addition to these revisions made during modern times, there have also been subtle variations depending upon usage (i.e., primary vs alternate versions).
Today you can find this classic design being used everywhere from athletic apparel & gear items through official websites/social media accounts associated with Lafayette Athletics programs up until the present day – proving just how timelessly relevant it truly remains after 84 years since inception!
