Bulls Wordmark Logo
The South Florida Bulls have had a long and storied history, with their wordmark logo playing an important role in the team’s identity. The original logo was created in 1996 when the Bulls first joined Division I-A of college football. It featured a white shield with green trim and gold lettering that read “USF BULLS” across the top. This logo was used until 2004 when it underwent some changes to better reflect its location in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The new design kept many of the same elements as before but added more color to help emphasize its connection to Tampa Bay area culture and sports teams such as baseball's Rays or hockey's Lightning. The colors were changed from white, green, and gold to red, black yellow which are now known as "Bulls Red," "Bulls Black," and" Bullseye Yellow". Additionally, there is an outline around each letter which gives it some extra flair compared to other logos at this level of competition like UCF Knights or Miami Hurricanes. In addition, the updated version also included two crossed swords underneath for emphasis on strength.
Today, the South Florida bulls still use this same updated wordmark design for all official merchandise including hats shirts jerseys, etc. While small tweaks may be made here or there over time, this iconic look has become synonymous with USF athletics. It stands out among other collegiate logos due not only due its bright colors but also because of how closely connected it is tied back to local culture and traditions that make up part of what makes USF so special overall.
