Dukes Primary Logo
The James Madison Dukes are a Division I NCAA college basketball team that competes in the Colonial Athletic Association. The school has been around since 1908 and is one of the most successful programs in its conference, having won six regular-season championships and four tournament titles. As part of their long history, they have had several primary logos over the years to represent their program.
The first logo for James Madison was introduced during the 1950s when it featured a shield with three stars on top along with an interlocking “J” and “M” inside of it. This logo would be used until 1977 when they switched to another design featuring two crossed sabers surrounding an eagle head at the center court surrounded by a circle containing "James Madison" written across it in script font as well as "DUKES". In 1988, this version was slightly modified by adding blue coloring behind both swords which gave them more depth while still keeping all other elements intact from previous versions.
In 2000, JMU unveiled what many consider to be their current primary logo - a stylized letter ‘J’ formed into an abstract representation of Duke Dog (the university mascot) wearing his trademark crown atop his head while holding onto two crossed swords below him; he also wears small wings on either side giving him added flight ability which further emphasizes strength & power associated with being part of a such prestigious institution like JMU athletics department! This iconic mark has been used ever since throughout various marketing materials including apparel items produced by Nike or Adidas among others so fans can show off their support proudly wherever they go!
