As a sports fan, you know that the Oakland Golden Grizzlies have been around for many years, and their logo has changed. From its inception in 1998 to today, the primary logo of this NCAA Division I program has gone through several iterations. The original design was created by artist Michael Cusack in 1998 when he was commissioned to create an official identity for Oakland University’s then-new athletics program. The initial design featured two white grizzly bears on either side of an orange shield with “Oakland” written in black letters. This iconic image became synonymous with OU Athletics and is still used today for its branding efforts on apparel and other merchandise items like hats or stickers.

Over time, minor changes were made to tweak certain elements, such as font size or color variations. Still, overall, they kept true to Cusack’s original concept until 2013, when they released an updated version featuring more vibrant colors, including yellow accents around each bear head and brighter shades throughout the shield shape itself. This new look also included a slight alteration where “Golden Grizzlies" replaced "Oakland" above both bear's heads, giving them added prominence within this new iteration while keeping consistent branding from previous versions.

As one can see, the evolution of OU's primary logo over these past few decades speaks volumes about how far they've come since first debuting back during the '98 season opener against Wisconsin - Milwaukee Panthers!
