Mustangs Primary Logo

The Cal Poly Mustangs have a long and proud history, which is represented by their iconic primary logo. The logo has been around since the school's inception in 1901 and has gone through several iterations over the years to reflect changing times and styles.

The first version of the Mustang logo was introduced in 1959 when Cal Poly joined NCAA Division II athletics. It featured a silhouette of a horse with its head turned back towards its tail, symbolizing strength, courage, and determination—all qualities that embody what it means to be part of the Mustang family. This version remained largely unchanged until 1975 when an updated design was introduced featuring more detail on both the horse’s mane as well as additional shading along its body lines for added depth.

In 1998 another major change took place with new colors being adopted for all athletic logos including navy blue replacing royal blue from previous versions; white replaced silver; red replaced maroon; yellow/gold became brighter than before but still retained some elements from past designs such as stars at either side of “Mustang” lettering underneath main image area (which also changed slightly). In addition to this update there were also minor tweaks made throughout the next few decades like slight adjustments in color saturation or adding small details like hoof prints near bottom corners - all done keeping the original look intact while modernizing it just enough so that people recognize immediately who they are looking!

This current iteration continues today across various mediums such as apparel items or signage around campus facilities – making sure everyone knows how much pride we take here at Cal Poly Mustangs!
