Fighting Irish Primary Logo
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish primary logo is one of the most recognizable logos in all sports. The iconic image has been around since 1964 and is a symbol that represents not only the University but also its rich athletic history. From football to basketball and everything in between, this logo has become synonymous with excellence on and off the field.
The original design was created by Theodore Wojcik, who had previously worked for General Motors, designing their famous Pontiac GTO emblem. He took inspiration from a medieval coat of arms featuring three gold shamrocks arranged in an inverted triangle set against a blue background – colors taken from France’s national flag (blue) and Ireland’s (green). This same design remains today, although there have been minor changes, such as replacing green with navy blue or making subtle alterations to make it look more modernized or streamlined for specific applications like apparel or web graphics designs.
Notre Dame's primary logo continues to be recognized across college athletics even after almost 60 years since its inception due mainly because it still holds to its original concept while also managing to evolve without losing any of what makes it unique - namely tradition, pride, and excellence associated with being part of “the Fighting Irish family." It serves as a constant reminder that no matter how much things may change at Notre Dame, they will always remain rooted firmly within their past successes while striving towards future greatness through hard work and dedication along side school spirit!
