Tigers Primary Logo

The Memphis Tigers have a long and storied history, and their primary logo has been an integral part of that. The first iteration of the Memphis Tigers logo was introduced in 1972 when the school first adopted it as its official identity. It featured a snarling tiger head with “MEMPHIS TIGERS” written underneath in bold white lettering. This design quickly became iconic for fans across the country, representing not only athletic excellence but also pride in one's hometown team.

In 2006, the university decided to update its primary logo to reflect changing times while still paying homage to its original design elements from nearly 35 years prior. The new version is much more modernized than before; it features a sleek black-and-white tiger head with two stripes running down each side of its face and “MEMPHIS TIGERS” written below again in bold white lettering – this time accompanied by two red stars on either side for added flair! Although some may consider this redesign too drastic or unnecessary at best (especially considering how beloved the old one was), most can agree that it does indeed capture what makes being part of Tiger Nation so special: a passion for our city and team combined with fierce determination no matter what obstacles come our way!

Today, both versions are used interchangeably depending on context - though many would argue that nothing beats seeing those classic orange letters against blue skies during game day!
