Wildcats Primary Logo
If you’re a fan of Abilene Christian Wildcats athletics, know about the iconic logo that has become synonymous with the school. The Abilene Christian Wildcats' primary logo is one of the most recognizable logos in college sports, and it has a long history dating back to its debut in 1973.
The original design was created by former ACU art professor Robert Calkins, who was inspired by his love for wild cats and wanted to capture their spirit in his artwork. The result was an aggressive-looking cat silhouette featuring two large crossed swords behind it – symbols that have since become associated with strength and courage at ACU Athletics events.
Over time, minor changes were made to refine the look of this classic symbol. Still, its basic form remained unchanged until 2009, when a new version debuted as part of an overall rebranding effort for Abilene Christian University Athletics programs (including NCAA teams). This new version featured more vibrant colors and sharper lines, giving it more modern appeal while retaining its classic elements, such as those two crossed swords behind our beloved Wildcat mascot!
It's no wonder this logo continues to be so popular among current students/alumni and other supporters alike - after all these years; we can still recognize how much passion went into creating something so timelessly iconic! Whether cheering on our teams from afar or proudly wearing apparel featuring this classic design - let us never forget where we came from or what makes us unique: Our beloved Wildcat Primary Logo!
