Tigers Primary Logo
The Princeton Tigers have a long and storied history in NCAA athletics, and their primary logo has been an integral part of that story. The iconic orange tiger head with its fierce expression is one of the most recognizable symbols in college sports today. But what is the history behind this beloved logo?
The original version of the Princeton Tiger was designed by artist Charles Ebbets in 1896 for use on athletic uniforms. This design featured a snarling orange tiger head facing to the left, surrounded by two black stripes at the top and bottom representing paws or claws. It soon became known as “the Ebbets Tiger” among fans, alumni, and students alike—and it continues to be used today with only minor modifications over time.
In 1925, after several years of using different versions of “the Ebbets Tiger” on various apparel items such as jerseys and hats, Princeton officially adopted it as its official school symbol—a decision that would stand until 2003 when they updated it slightly for modern times while still keeping true to its roots. The new version features a more realistic-looking tiger face along with larger eyes set closer together than before; these changes give it an even more intimidating look while still maintaining all elements from previous designs including those two defining black stripes around each side which represent claws or paws (depending upon who you ask).
In addition to being used widely across campus buildings like Nassau Hall where classes are held every day during term-time ––it also appears prominently on team uniforms both home & away––making sure everyone knows exactly who they're rooting for! And finally: although there have been slight variations over time due mainly to technological advances allowing better reproduction quality––one thing remains consistent: no matter what year you were born into this world or how many decades pass since then––you can always count on seeing "the" familiar Orange & Black mascot proudly displayed wherever Tigers roam!
