Hornets Primary Logo
The Alabama State Hornets have a proud and storied history that dates back to the early 1900s. The team has gone through several iterations of its primary logo over the years, each one reflecting a different era in the school's history. From its earliest days as an agricultural college to today, these logos have helped define what it means to be an Alabama State Hornet fan.
The first iteration of the primary logo was created in 1921 by art professor William J. Bostick Jr., who designed it for use on letterheads and official documents associated with ASU athletics teams at that time. This original design featured two crossed yellow flags with black outlines surrounding them; within this outline were three stylized letters spelling out “ASU” along with four stars representing North, South Central, and West divisions of campus life at ASU during those times (1921-1935).
In 1935, when football became part of campus life at ASU, another version appeared featuring a hornet head inside a shield shape outlined in white against a black background; this version is still used today but has been tweaked slightly from time to time since then – most notably adding gold accents around various elements such as horns or wings on either side (1995). In addition to being used for branding purposes across all sports teams affiliated with ALSTA Athletics Department, this iconic logo also appears prominently throughout university buildings including dormitories, recreational facilities, and even student service offices. It is indeed an integral part of both past & present culture associated with Alabama State University.
