Raiders Primary Logo
Regarding college sports, few logos are as iconic and beloved as the Wright State Raiders. The primary logo of the Raiders has been an integral part of their identity since they first stepped onto the field in 1987. For over three decades, this logo has symbolized pride and excellence on and off the field.
The original design was created by graphic designer Scott Reisberg in 1986 when Wright State University hired him to create a new look for its athletic teams—the same year they joined Division I athletics from Division II status. The initial version featured two crossed swords with wings above them against a blue circle backdrop (later changed to black). This classic design is still used today but with minor modifications over time, such as adding more detail around each sword or changing up colors like silver or gold accents on some aspects.
In 2001, after 15 years of use, Reisberg updated his original creation slightly while keeping true to its roots: He replaced one sword with an ax-like weapon called “a halberd,” which is traditionally associated with medieval knights—an appropriate nod given that WSU’s mascot at that time was Sir William Raider Knight! Other changes included making both weapons larger than before plus adding more details such as scales along their blades or feathered edges near their hilts; additionally, he also introduced brighter colors into his palette, including reds & yellows alongside blues & blacks, giving us what we now know today's official primary logo!
It goes without saying how vital this emblem is not only for fans but also alumni who have gone through so much together under its banner, whether cheering from stands during games/matches/races, etc., wearing apparel emblazoned proudly across chests everywhere you go – there’s no denying just how special this mark truly means especially when looking back at the history behind why it exists in first place…it serves reminder all those who contact WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY should always strive towards greatness no matter what challenges may come our way - GO RAIDERS!!!
