Skyhawks Primary Logo

The Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks have a long and proud history of success in the NCAA, and their primary logo has been an important part of that success. The original version was designed by former athletic director Paul Hoolahan in 1968 when the school first joined Division I athletics. It featured a hawk with wings spread wide atop the letters “UTM” set against a blue background.

Since then, the logo has gone through several iterations to reflect changes within both college sports as well as at UTM itself. In 1997, for example, it was updated to feature more modern typefaces while still retaining its classic look. This design is still used today on some merchandise items such as t-shirts and hats but not on official team uniforms or equipment due to licensing restrictions from Nike and other apparel companies who produce those products for UTM teams.

In 2004 another update occurred which changed two key elements: 1) The hawk became larger relative to other parts of the design; 2) A black outline was added around all components giving it a bolder appearance overall. This new version quickly became popular among fans who appreciated its sharper look compared with previous designs. It also helped create greater brand recognition since many people were already familiar with how recognizable this particular image had become over time.

Finally, in 2018 yet another change happened when gold accents were added throughout along with minor tweaks like adjusting font sizes & spacing between words/letters, etc...This most recent iteration gives off an even stronger feeling of strength & power than before - something that perfectly encapsulates what being apart of UT Martin's athletics program means!
