Wildcats Primary Logo

The Villanova Wildcats are one of the most storied and successful college basketball programs in history. The team’s primary logo has a long and fascinating history that reflects its illustrious past.

The first version of the Villanova Wildcats logo was adopted in 1971 when it replaced an earlier design featuring a stylized “V” surrounded by a circle. This new design featured two wildcats facing each other with their tails intertwined, while they were set against a blue background with white trimming around them to create contrast between the cats and their environment. This original logo served as inspiration for many future iterations, including those used today on uniforms, merchandise, and advertising materials related to the university's athletics program.

In 2008, after 37 years of using this same basic design concept for its primary athletic identity mark; Villanova decided to update its look once again by introducing minor changes such as adding more detail into both cats' fur textures along with changing some aspects within their facial features like eyes or nose shape; all these modifications were intended to make them appear more realistic than before but still keeping true essence from previous versions. Furthermore, a very subtle addition was made at the top part where now we can see three stars representing school colors: blue, white & grey which also gives us a sense of pride every time we look at it. These small alterations have been able to keep up-to-date iconic images associated with our beloved University throughout the last decade until the present day making sure that everyone knows who is behind this fierce mascot!
