Spiders Primary Logo
The Richmond Spiders have been a part of the University of Richmond since 1890, and in that time they have had many different iterations of their primary logo. From the classic spider to more modern designs, each one has helped to define the team's identity over its long history.
The first iteration of the Richmond Spider logo was created in 1896 when students at UR began wearing uniforms with an embroidered spider on them. This design featured a small black spider outlined by white stitching with two red eyes and eight legs spread across its body – all set against a yellow background. The original uniform also included “Richmond College” written out across the chest area which further established this as UR's official mascot moving forward!
In 1965, then-athletic director Wilbur Jackson decided to update the look for his teams' logos - introducing what is now known as "the classic" version: an orange/black color scheme featuring four legs instead six (as seen previously). This style would remain unchanged until 1995 when another redesign occurred; this time taking inspiration from comic books - resulting in larger eyes & thicker lines being used throughout while still keeping those same four leg elements intact!
Finally, after years without any major changes made to its visual identity; In 2017UR unveiled yet another new take on its iconic Spider Logo–this one featuring bolder colors & sharper details than ever before while still retaining some familiar aspects such as those same 4 legs from previous versions (albeit slightly modified). To top it off there are even subtle hints towards other campus symbols like wisteria vines intertwined around each side–allowing fans everywhere to get excited about what could come next for their beloved mascot going forward into future seasons ahead!
Overall, whether you're looking back or looking ahead – It's clear that no matter how much things might change over time; The University Of Richmond will always be a proud home for our beloved spiders who've been so deeply rooted within our community since day 1.
