Bearcats Primary Logo
For sports fans, the history of a team’s logo is often just as important as its current design. For Binghamton Bearcats fans, that history goes back to 1977 when the school first adopted its distinctive “B-Cat” logo. The original version featured an orange bear with white eyes and claws on a black background. This was meant to represent strength and agility—qualities associated with the Bearcats since their inception in 1932.
Throughout the years, minor changes were made to this primary logo. Still, it remained unchanged until 2003, when it underwent a complete redesign by Joe Bosack & Co., who had also designed logos for other professional teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The new look featured an updated version of B-Cat in navy blue against an orange background and bolder typography spelling out ‘Bearcats’ underneath him – giving us what we now know today as our beloved mascot!
While some may argue whether or not this change was necessary (or even beneficial), there can be no doubt about one thing: over four decades later, B-Cat still stands strong–a testament to his enduring spirit!
