River Hawks Primary Logo

The UMass Lowell River Hawks have been a proud member of the NCAA Division I since 2013, and with that distinction comes an impressive history of logos. The primary logo for the team has evolved, but its core elements remain unchanged.

Since their inception in 1972, the River Hawks' primary logo has featured a hawk's head encircled by two wings and perched atop a shield shape. This design was chosen to represent strength and courage, both highly valued by athletes competing at this level of competition. Over time, minor changes have been made to give it a more modern appeal while still keeping true to its original intent—to inspire athletes on game day with imagery that embodies those values they strive for every day on the field or court.

In the 2003-04 season, the school unveiled an update featuring improved colors and sharper lines, giving it greater clarity when displayed from afar or used digitally on online platforms like social media. As technology continues to evolve, so does our ability to create better visuals through digital mediums such as vector graphics programs like Adobe Illustrator, which we use today.

With each passing year, we need to remember where we came from even if things look different now than they did back then -this includes honoring our past through visual representations such as logos. The UMass Lowell River Hawks’ primary logo is no exception; over decades of evolution, it remains one constant reminder of how far this program has come since first taking flight nearly 50 years ago!
