Patriots Primary Logo
The George Mason Patriots are a Division I college basketball team based in Fairfax, Virginia. The team has had an impressive history with several NCAA Tournament appearances and Final Four runs. As part of their legacy, the Patriots have also gone through several logo iterations over the years. Let's take a look at some of the primary logos that have helped define this storied program!
The first George Mason logo was adopted in 1972 when it became an independent school after leaving its conference affiliation with Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). This logo featured two crossed swords along with “George Mason” written above it and “Patriots” below it. It was used until 1978 when they joined East Coast Conference (ECC).
In 1979, a new primary logo debuted featuring three stars surrounding “GMU” inside of a shield shape outline which represented patriotism for America as well as loyalty to GMU itself. This design stayed unchanged until 1989 when another version appeared featuring more detail on each star including red stripes across them to represent American pride even further than before!
In 1992, yet another update occurred where now there were five stars instead four surrounding GMU within its shield shape outline but still maintaining its patriotic theme from previous versions while adding additional symbolism for excellence and success achieved by athletes who donned these colors throughout time since then up till today's current iteration which features seven white stars around "Mason" inside what looks like either laurel leaves or flames depending on how you interpret them both representing victory & triumph respectively all together forming one powerful emblematic statement about what makes up Patriot spirit here at George Mason University - no matter where our student-athletes may go next in life whether it be professional sports or any other field out there; We will always remember our roots & never forget who we are nor why we strive so hard every day: To be Champions For Life!!!
