Rams Primary Logo

For decades, the Colorado State Rams have been a beloved collegiate sports team. As one of the most recognizable teams in college athletics, the Rams are well-known for their iconic primary logo. The history behind this logo is as interesting and unique as it is timeless.

The original version of the Colorado State Rams’ primary logo was designed by renowned graphic artist Tom Whalen in 1957 when he was hired to create a new look for CSU Athletics Department that would represent both its past and present traditions. His design featured an image of a ram’s head with two horns sprouting from either side—a classic symbol associated with strength and power since ancient times—and set against an orange background that has become synonymous with CSU ever since then.

Over time, subtle changes were made to this original design including adding shading around certain features or slightly altering certain elements such as color or font size but overall it remained largely unchanged until 2011 when another major redesign took place under athletic director Jack Graham who wanted to give fans something fresh yet still true to its roots at heart. This new iteration showcased more modernized artwork that highlighted greater detail on all aspects of the ram's face while also introducing bolder colors like navy blue into the mix. It quickly became widely accepted among supporters across campus and beyond!

Today, the current version remains very similar in appearance compared to what we saw back then although there have been some minor adjustments over years such as tweaking the shape of horns making them appear sharper than before etcetera. Although many other universities may come to go throughout the years one thing sure will remain the same: Ram Head Logo represents proud tradition and excellence embodied within every single member University community!
