Great Danes Primary Logo

The Albany Great Danes are a proud and storied program in the NCAA with a long history of success. However, many may not know that their primary logo has a unique history. The current logo features an orange "A" within a navy blue circle, but it wasn't always this way.

When the school first adopted its nickname in 1924, no official logo existed! Instead, they used various combinations of lettering to represent their team name - from simple block letters to more intricate designs featuring interlocking fonts or cursive script. It wasn't until 1948 that they finally settled on an official design: two overlapping D's (for Danes) set against an orange background with white trimming around them - similar to today's version except without the surrounding circle shape or navy blue coloration.

This design remained unchanged for almost 40 years before being replaced by another one-letter monogram in 1986, featuring just an "A" inside a circular frame instead of two Ds overlapping each other like before (although both versions still retained some elements from earlier iterations). This new look would become iconic over time and eventually be adopted as Albany's primary mark ever since then - although slight modifications have been made along the way, such as changing font styles or adding shading effects here and there for added emphasis/depth, etc. All told, though, it remains recognizable mainly compared to how things started nearly 100 years ago!
