Midshipmen Primary Logo

The Navy Midshipmen are one of the most storied programs in college football, and their iconic primary logo has been a part of that legacy for decades. The history behind this classic emblem is as rich and varied as the team’s long-standing tradition.

The first iteration of the Navy Midshipmen primary logo was designed in 1963 by then-athletic director Jack Lengyel. It featured an image of a midshipman with crossed swords beneath him, along with “Navy” written across his chest – an homage to traditional naval insignia used during World War II. This design served as the school's official mark until 1984 when it was updated to feature more modern imagery.

The current version features a stylized anchor placed atop two crossed swords which represent courage and honor – values held dear by members of both military branches and athletic teams alike! Additionally, there is also now a shield shape included within which contains three stars; these stars signify loyalty, pride & respect - all essential qualities necessary for victory on any playing field or battlefield!

Over time various elements have been added or changed but at its core remains faithful to its original design concept: A strong symbol representing our nation’s bravest men & women who serve so proudly each day throughout our world!
