Vandals Primary Logo

The University of Idaho Vandals has a long and storied history, stretching back to their founding in 1889. Over the years, they’ve had several different logos that reflect their unique identity as an NCAA Division I-A program. Today we take a look at the primary logo for the Idaho Vandals and its evolution over time.

In 1967, when UI began competing in college athletics on a full-time basis, it adopted its first official logo – an interlocking “UI” with two crossed swords beneath it. This design was used until 1975 when another version of this same concept was introduced featuring three stars above each letter instead of just one star below both letters like before. In 1987 a new shield-style logo debuted which featured two crossed swords over top of the school name written out inside an oval shape along with four five-pointed stars around them all representing each branch within university life – academics (blue), student body (gold), alumni/friends (silver) and athletics (green).

In 1997 however, things changed dramatically as UI unveiled what is now known as its current primary mark: The "Vandal Head" Logo! This iconic image features an anthropomorphic Viking head wearing a helmet complete with horns on either side while also having his eyes closed in determination or concentration depending upon how you want to interpret him; either way he stands ready for battle! It has been used ever since then across all sports teams & departments associated with the University Of Idaho Athletics including football helmets & other apparel items such as t-shirts or hats bearing this particular symbol proudly displayed front & center so everyone knows who you root for come game day - Go, Vandals!!

Overall throughout these various changes, one thing remains true: The spirit behind being part of something bigger than oneself never wavers no matter how much time passes by...Go, Vandals!
