Pride Primary Logo
As a sports fan, you may have noticed the iconic Pride logo of Hofstra University's athletic teams. This fierce lion head has become synonymous with the university's pride, strength, and determination. But have you ever wondered about the history and evolution of this primary logo? This blog post will deeply dive into the Hofstra Pride primary logo and its significance to the university's sports teams.
The first version of the Hofstra Pride logo was introduced in the early 1960s when the university was still known as Hofstra College. It featured a simple and minimalistic design of a lion's head with the letters "HC" on its forehead. This logo was used for all of Hofstra's athletic teams until the 1980s, when the university rebranded.
In 1982, Hofstra University officially changed its name from Hofstra College to Hofstra University. Along with this change, the athletic teams also needed a new logo representing the university's new identity. The new logo still featured a lion's head, but it was more detailed and fierce-looking this time. The letters "HU" were added to the lion's forehead, replacing the old "HC" logo. This logo remained in use until 2004.
In 2004, Hofstra University underwent another rebranding, and with it came a new and improved version of the Pride logo. This time, the lion's head was more stylized and modern. The letters "HU" were removed, and the lion's mane was made to look like a flame, symbolizing the university's passion and determination. This logo is still used today and has become a recognizable symbol of Hofstra's athletic teams.
However, the evolution of the Hofstra Pride logo did not stop there. In 2012, the university introduced a new secondary logo featuring a full-body lion with the words "Hofstra Pride" underneath. This logo was used for promotional and marketing purposes, while the primary logo remained the fierce lion head.
In 2017, Hofstra University celebrated its 80th anniversary, and with it came a new and updated version of the Pride logo. This logo featured a more modern and sleek design of the lion's head, with sharper lines and a bolder look. The letters "HU" were added to the lion's forehead, paying homage to the university's history.
