Dragons Primary Logo
As sports fans, we are often drawn to the visual representation of our favorite teams. The logos that adorn our jerseys, hats, and flags symbolize our loyalty and passion. But have you ever stopped to think about the history behind these logos? Today, we will take a closer look at the primary logo of the Drexel Dragons and explore its evolution over the years.
The Drexel Dragons are a Division I college basketball team representing Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team's logo, a fierce dragon with wings spread wide and its sharp claws ready for battle has become synonymous with the school's athletic program.
The earliest version of the Drexel Dragons logo dates back to the 1950s. It featured a simple, stylized dragon head with the letters "DU" inscribed on its forehead. This logo was used for over three decades until it underwent a significant overhaul in the 1980s.
In 1983, the Drexel Dragons introduced a new logo to become the foundation for all future designs. The updated logo featured a more detailed and realistic dragon, with its wings and tail now fully visible. The letters "DU" were replaced with the word "Drexel" written in bold, capitalized letters above the dragon. This logo was used for almost two decades until the turn of the millennium brought about another change.
In 2000, the Drexel Dragons introduced a new logo that would be used for the next 14 years. This logo featured a more aggressive and intimidating dragon, with its sharp teeth and fiery breath on full display. The word "Drexel" was now written in a bold, modern font, further emphasizing the team's strength and determination.
But in 2014, the Drexel Dragons returned to their roots and brought back the classic dragon head logo from the 1950s. However, it was given a modern twist with a sleeker and more dynamic design this time. The letters "DU" were also brought back, but this time, they were placed inside the dragon's mouth, symbolizing the team's hunger for victory.
