Gators Primary Logo
The Florida Gators have a long and storied history that is represented in their primary logo. The original logo, which was created in 1911, featured an alligator wearing a top hat with the words “University of Florida” written above it. This design became known as Albert the Alligator and has been used on various merchandise over the years. In 1992, however, a new logo was introduced to represent the modern era of Gator athletics: an orange block ‘F’ surrounded by four green gator heads facing outward from each corner of the letter F.
This new design quickly gained popularity among fans due to its boldness and simplicity compared to Albert's more classic look. It also helped solidify branding for all athletic teams at UF as well as other university departments such as admissions or alumni relations which could use this distinct visual identity on their materials or products associated with UF activities. Since then this iconic image has become synonymous with Gator pride across campus and beyond!
Today, both logos are still widely recognized by Gator fans everywhere who proudly display them on apparel or accessories related to University activities — even though only one can be considered official for licensed merchandise produced through IMG College Licensing (the licensing arm of UF Athletics). The two designs together provide insight into how far back our school's traditions go while also representing where we are today - united under one strong brand that symbolizes excellence in academics & athletics alike!
