Braves Primary Logo

The Alcorn State Braves' primary logo has a long and rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. The iconic “A” with crossed tomahawks was first used in 1894 when the school was founded as Oakland College. It represented both the college’s initials and its mascot at that time—the Braves of Alcorn County, Mississippi. Over time, this logo has come to represent not only athletic excellence but also academic achievement and community pride for those affiliated with Alcorn State University (ASU).

Since its inception in 1894, ASU's primary logo has undergone several changes over the years; however, it still retains much of its original design elements from more than a century ago. In 1975, it underwent one of its most significant updates when an orange outline was added around each side of "A" which made it stand out even further against other logos within NCAA sports teams across America. This update coincided with ASU joining Division I-AA football competition within NCAA athletics during this same year as well—which helped solidify their place amongst some elite collegiate programs nationwide!

Today, after more than 125 years since being established by former slaves who sought higher education opportunities for African Americans living throughout Mississippi during the Reconstruction period following Civil War; The Alcorn State Braves Primary Logo is still going strong! It continues to represent all aspects associated with ASU including academics & athletics while simultaneously honoring the legacy left behind by generations before us who worked tirelessly so future students could experience something they never had a chance to do themselves: attend college & receive a quality education regardless of race or gender identity.
