Redskins Alternate Logo

The Washington Redskins have a long and storied history, and their alternate logo is no exception. The team has had several designs over the years that have been used as an alternative to their iconic primary logo.

The first of these was introduced in 1972 when the team adopted its current name after previously being known as the Boston Braves, then later renamed to become simply “the Redskins” in 1933. This original design featured a white-outlined red Native American chief wearing a traditional headdress with three feathers extending from it while holding two crossed tomahawks below him on either side of his face. In addition to this emblematic figure, two crossed flags behind him represented both America and Canada due to Washington's proximity near both countries' borders at the time; this feature was later removed from subsequent versions for unknown reasons but remains part of its legacy today nonetheless.

In 2009, another new version emerged, which featured only one feather coming out from under Chief Zee’s headdress instead of three like before; additionally, there were now four stars above his forehead rather than just two on each side like before too - all meant symbolically represent courage or strength within Native American culture respectively according to some reports online about its meaning & significance. Furthermore, unlike earlier iterations where he appeared alone without any other symbols around him, here we see multiple elements surrounding Chief Zee, including various tribal patterns/designs along with what appears to be an eagle perched atop a nearby mountainside (which could be interpreted further to signify freedom). Altogether, they combine to create a unique visual representation of not only the Washington football franchise itself but also of native people who inspired them beginning in 1932 when an organization first began using the moniker ‘Redskins'.
