Cardinals Wordmark Logo

The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Cardinals have a long and storied history, reflected in their iconic wordmark logo. This logo has undergone many changes over the years, but its overall design remains consistent.

The original version of the Cardinals’ wordmark was designed by cartoonist Ray Thompson in 1947 when the team moved to Chicago from Racine, Wisconsin. Thompson used an old-style font with red lettering for “CARDINALS” and black lettering for “ARIZONA” above it to create an instantly recognizable brand identity that has endured throughout the decades since then.

In 2005, after more than fifty years of use, designer Todd Radom updated this classic look by adding modern touches such as rounded edges on each character and giving them all white outlines that stand out against any background color or texture they may be placed on top of. This new iteration also features a unique drop shadow effect at certain angles, giving it even more depth and dimensionality than earlier versions of the same mark, making it one-of-a-kind among NFL logos today!
